About Francis
English-Dutch countertenor Francis Gush has a burgeoning international operatic career.
Francis has performed with companies such as Glyndebourne Festival Opera (Tolomeo– Giulio Cesare, cover), English Touring Opera (Cesare– Giulio Cesare) and the Opéra de Lille (Athamas– Semele, cover) as well as performing the title role in Titus L’Empéreur at the Händel Festspiele in Halle (Opera Settecento) to critical acclaim.
His work has been met with critical acclaim, with the Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment, singing a programme of Purcell and Blow, perfromances at the Wigmore Hall with Steven Isserlis, described as a ‘show-stealing turn’ (The Arts Desk), and his ‘blow-away performance’ (The Stage) as Arsace in Hampstead Garden Opera’s Partenope / Handel. Francis has also covered the Spirit (Dido and Aeneas / Purcell) at the BBC Proms with La Nuova Musica.

The recent London debut of Elena Langer’s Landscape for Three People at Another Music Festival receives critical acclaim, with Francis Joining soprano Hilary Cronin, with the ensemble of the festival. Leonid Denyatnikov’s Leaden Echo, a solo work for countertenor and orchestra, was given its UK premiere with the composer in attendance and was similarly well received, with a recording to follow.
